Fathers Day Male Initiative Rally and March

On Fathers Day, Sunday, June 17th there will be a Silent March to 79th Street and Madison Avenue to protest the lack of a action by the Mayor to stop Racial Profiling and Stop and Frisk practices. The stop and frisk numbers are increasing; so is the percentage of arrests that occur as a result of stop and frisk activity. In 2011, 685,724 New Yorkers were stopped by the police. 605,328 were totally innocent (88 percent). 350,743 were black (53 percent). 223,740 were Latino (34 percent). 61,805 were white (9 percent). 341,581 were aged 14-24 (51 percent). According to an analysis by the New York Civil Liberties Union, more young black men were stopped and frisked by police last year than actually live in the city. We are calling Fathers, Uncles, sons and all Male Initiatives to come out and show your support to end Racial Profiling and Stop and Frisk in New York City. For Youth – This program can help you get a job! Plus, you may earn up to $900 to cover your expenses if you get training from an authorized NY Youth Works provider. Getting certified for the program is a snap; see below for details
For Placement/Training Providers - the NYS Department of Labor has made $8 million dollars available through three (3) solicitations to facilitate the employment of work-ready youth in the 12 targeted New York Youth Work areas.

African Center for Community Empowerment (ACCE) Volunteer Mentor

African Center for Community Empowerment (ACCE) recognizes that positive adult interaction with youth is an important adjunct in positioning our youth for successful movement forward, not only as it relates to their educational endeavors, but also, as they are making daily determinations about life decisions. Being a Mentor, is about being a positive adult role-model for a young person.  And although tutoring and assisting a youth (either individually or in a group situation) is the main focus of our after-school program, the mentoring component becomes a salient part of your interaction with the child/children. If you are interested in volunteering as a mentor with the African Center for Community Empowerment's dynamic after-school program, please contact our organization via e-mail at acce.saywalah@gmail.com or 718-264-9638.
